Married At First Sight’s Stacey Hampton has revealed her decade-long battle with an eating disorder, which she first developed while being bullied in high school.
The 26-year-old said she currently weighs just 48kg and takes medication daily to help her eat because she is still medically classified as anorexic.
The law graduate explained that she was initially bullied over her svelte frame as a teenager, and is currently just one kilo above her lowest ever weight of 47kg.
Stacey also denied bizarre and hurtful rumours that she underwent ‘rib removal surgery’ to look even thinner.
Stacey said: ‘I am 48kg, why would I have a rib removed?
‘I had an eating disorder when I was younger and I’m still trying to put weight on now. I have to take medication to eat and to get my appetite back.’
She added: ‘I was bullied in school for my weight and even now as an adult. My weight still goes up and down.’
The mother-of-two developed her eating disorder after being bullied as a teenager, and has continued to struggle with the trauma into her adult life.
Stacey chose to speak out following a report by NW magazine that falsely claimed she was ‘looking into rib removal’ surgery.
Rib removal is an extreme surgical procedure that makes a person’s waist smaller.
She was particularly concerned that the false information would trigger other people recovering from eating disorders.
Stacey also discussed her ongoing battle on Hit 107 Adelaide on Tuesday.
‘I’ve always had issues with eating and I’ve always been very skinny,’ she said, adding that ‘stress and trauma’ had contributed to her eating disorder.
‘There are a lot of women out there like this, and they should get help and go and see a doctor.’
